About Alyssa Spina

As a musicologist and violinist, I am passionate about researching and performing works by string composers whose lives and music intersect with politics, war, trauma, reception history, and philosophies of music. Exploring the connection between research and performance deepens my understanding of the violin and reveals how historical and theoretical contexts inform interpretation. By integrating scholarship, analysis, and performance, I aim to offer new perspectives in musicology and showcase the depth of the violin’s diverse repertoire.

Currently, I am a fourth-year Musical Studies student at SUNY Potsdam’s Crane School of Music, where I concentrate in music history and violin performance. I aim to pursue a Ph.D. in the field of Musicology in the near future.

Alyssa’s primary music history mentor is Dr. Erin Brooks.

Alyssa is a violin student of Liesl Schoenberger Doty.
